Learn More About Our Tailgate

The Blue Crew stands as a legendary staple in Houston Texans tailgating culture. Born back before the franchise even played its first game, a ragtag team of die-hard fans stuffed into a single van to cheer on the Texans at the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. Flash forward to today, and you’ll find nearly seventy vehicles converging into a sprawling community under the Texas sun, all converging in the Platinum Lot at NRG Stadium. This is not just a pre-game ritual—it’s a celebration of shared fandom, family, and Southern hospitality, stretching over fifteen hundred square feet of true tailgating territory.

On gameday, the energy begins swirling hours before kickoff as teams of volunteers set up long tables loaded with smoked ribs, brisket, wings, and all manner of delectable sides in true Texas barbecue style. There’s a family-friendly routine—children swing at a piñata, an hour and a half before kickoff the Bull Pen Shots ring out. Members shake hands with fans wearing rival jerseys and gladly invite them in for a taste. This potluck-style feast is fueled not just by smoked meats but by camaraderie, where anyone who walks by is greeted with a wave of “Howdy, y’all,” and a plate of food offered with genuine Southern kindness.

The Blue Crew’s reputation precedes them—named multiple times as the top tailgate in the NFL by tailgating legend Joe Cahn, “the Commissioner of Tailgating.” But what really sets the Blue Crew apart isn’t just their barbecue or awards; it’s their heart. As longtime members of the Tailgating Hall of Fame, they understand that tailgating is really about building a community. Families come to stay the day, kids return year after year, and visiting fans find themselves welcomed into the fold. Whether you’re a blue-blooded Texans fan or you bleed differently, you leave feeling like you belonged.

If you’re ever in Houston for a Texans game, head to the southeast corner of Westridge and Kirby. Rumble up in your car and you'll likely be greeted by the unmistakable sight of the Texans Short Bus, chrome trailers overflowing with smoked goodness, and a circle of fans leaning into stories and laughter. Expect a parade of flavors, a friendly toast, and an afternoon that makes Sunday feel like a neighborhood block party with the gridiron as its center stage.

In a world of high-tech stadiums and stream-lined experiences, the Blue Crew keeps tailgating human. It’s a place where stories are swapped over smoked pork, where tradition meets spontaneity, and where every fan’s welcome mat flies as proudly as the Texans flag. It’s not just barbecue—it’s belonging, and that’s what makes it tailgating at its most timeless.
